We awakened to a beautiful morning, and knowing it was going to be a full day, pulled anchor and headed out to the main river. We definitely could have spent another day on the hook in the Palmer Light Anchorage. However, we had a commitment to get Eli to Chattanooga and we wanted some time to enjoy the sites with him.
One of the first sights off in the horizon was this:
Having never traversed this part of Tennessee, we weren’t exactly sure what we were looking at, let alone if we would pass it. As we continued downriver, it became obvious what we were looking at.
Watts Bar Nuclear Plant
But, still, where exactly was it? How close would we be able to get to it?
Well, it turns out…pretty close. As in, just to the downriver side on the Watts Bar Lock and Dam!

Approaching Watts Bar Lock
Leaving Watts Bar Lock
Passing the Nuclear Facility – It turns out one can get pretty close!
Downriver we go
Having run about 100 miles since our last fuel fill at Fox Road Marina, we decided we should take the opportunity to fuel up. Blue Water Resort has Lodging, Camping and a Marina. After filling up our two tanks (and enjoying some ice cream) we continued to our selected overnight anchorage. The Sale Creek Anchorage proved to be a wonderful respite from the 90 degree day. We swam, showered, ate, enjoyed a beautiful sunset, and slept very hard!
Sweet Dreams!
